Commenting on the Sky News report “McDonald’s investigates after staff say lives at risk by failure to follow COVID safety rules”
Melissa Evans, McDonald’s worker in Wandsworth London, a McStriker and member of the BFAWU said:
“If McDonald’s really wanted to keep its workers safe it would recognise our union and we would work together to improve safety. Union workplaces are safer workplaces.“
Ian Hodson, President of the BFAWU said:
“The BFAWU is extremely concerned about health and safety across McDonald’s restaurants. Workers are reporting a lack of safety measures across the country which pose a risk to the over 100,000 people who work for the burger giant as well being a potential source of community transmission.
“During the pandemic, McDonald’s has paid out record amounts to shareholders, whilst receiving hundreds of millions in public subsidy all whilst workers have faced poverty wages, endemic abuse and unsafe conditions. In the face of these conditions workers have been coming together in the McStrike so they can support each other and win better.“
